Luxury Purse Lust; Ultra-rare Hermès Handbags Edition

The elusive cargo birkin. I don't care what color it is, I just want it!

Here is a list of items which are completely unrealistic and totally impractical for my lifestyle. But who cares. It doesn't hurt to dream. Also- we should probably call this post what it is. Luxury Purse Lust. Let's get into it!


1. Hermès Limited Edition Cargo Birkin 35 cm Jaune Ambre Swift and canvas with Palladium.

The cargo birkin is a very modern interpretation of the original Birkin handbag, first introduced in 1984, it has the added feature of external pockets which make the bag quite utilitarian. The addition of five external pockets adds a modern twist to the treasured bag. Imagine slipping your card case and keys into the front pocket, phone in the left-side pocket, your work IDs in the front flat pocket, and maybe a small water bottle on the right side pocket. Dashing. The Jaune Ambre(Yellow Amber) color is absolutely beautiful. This handbag was also produced in black- equally stunning. 

2. Hermès Shadow Birkin (Vache Naturelle?)

Think of the Birkin with all of three-dimensional components- and then flatten it down to two-dimensional. You get the Shadow Birkin! Instead of having the sangles and front flap as separate components, a singular piece of leather is shaped and molded into a 2D representation of the bag face that plays on the concepts of light and shadow when the bag is viewed head-on. The illusion of shape and light combine to give us the namesake of the bag; Shadow.

3.  Hermès Barenia Fauve Birkin with Gold - One of the dreamiest bags I have ever seen.

Have you heard of Louis Vuitton's vachetta leather- the leather that patinaes over time? Meet the grown up brother from Hermès. Barenia is the name of a rare and high quality calf leather that is tanned, dyed, and oiled to give an unmatched smooth texture. This leather is actually quite rare because the animal hides must be in excellent condition without any scarring or marks. Like Vuitton's vachetta leather, under exposure to light and the touch of the hand, the leather will darken with time. You thought you were scared to use your new Louis Vuitton bag with the raw vachetta leather? Then using this bag would probably give you a heart attack. The entirety of the bag is made from oxidizing leather! This bag is not for the faint of heart or those that purposefully keep their bag in pristine condition. This is for the group of handbag lovers that want their handbag companion to show the years of adventures that it has been on.

4. Hermès Ombre Birkin 25cm of Varanus Salvator Lizard with Palladium

Definitely one of the stranger Birkins to date. The lizard Birkin is a beautiful piece that typically comes in 25 centimeters, owing to the size limitations of the lizard hides that it is made from. There are of course a few lizard Birkins that are made in 35cm but those are few and far between. This handbag is similar to the Himalaya Birkin in that there is an ombre effect from the sides towards the center of the bag. One of the most beautiful components of this bag is the use of texture from the lizard skin to give an different aesthetic appeal and contrast to the leathers that the Birkin handbag is typically constructed from. Since lizard skin is quite a delicate material, this handbag is typically just a collector's piece and not used on a daily rotation. 

5. Hermès 40cm Etain Togo Leather Palladium Plated Kelly Retourne Bag

I bet you probably thought that my 5th item would have been another Birkin- Gotcha. Its a Kelly! Why not mix it up a bit. The Kelly handbag is actually one of the famed Hermès handbags. As the older sibling to the Birkin, the Kelly is a classic shape that gives vintage appeal to the modern handbag user. The Kelly handbag is constructed in multiple leather in multiple sizes, just like that Birkin. The advantage that the Kelly handbag has is that it is a single top handle which is generally lightweight compared to the Birkin and can also be paired with a cross-body strap for hands-free use. Depicted above is the sporty and athletic Kelly handbag in 40 cm. This handbag is great for daily use and travel!
